Naana Thaana Veena Pona, a fun single track from Suriya’s Thaana Serndha Kootam was launched on Thursday on the music streaming platform Saavn. The song is composed by Anirudh Ravichander with lyrics by the film’s director Vignesh Shivan.
The first single track “Naana Thaana Veena Pona” from Actor Suriya’s upcoming movie Thaana Serndha Kootam (TSK), composed by Anirudh Ravichander, was launched on Thursday.
The song, a fun romantic number, has been sung by Anirudh himself with lyrics penned by the film’s director Vignesh Shivan. With some interesting orchestration and minimal folk influence, the song bears the mark of Anirudh’s admirable production. The composer seems to know what works for his audience well. The young man is popular for his catchy tunes and Naana Thaana is no exception.
Adding to the liveliness of the song is Vignesh Shivan’s lyrics. The director has earlier written on multiple occasions for Anirudh (Naanum Rowdy Dhan, Maari, Remo). The light-hearted number is right up the director’s ally whose lines are known to be conversational — remember “Thangamey”, “Senjitaley” and “Adhaaru Adhaaru”?
The crew recently released two posters of the movie amid much fanfare on Suriya’s birthday which falls on July 23. The much awaited film, touted to be an entertainer, is Shivan’s first collaboration with Suriya. The project is in its final stages of shooting and is expected to release later this year.
Server Sundaram trailer: Santhanam's signature comic style leaves you in splits.
Server Sundaram stars Santhanam in the lead role, and Vaibhavi Shandilya is cast opposite him in this film. It is helmed by Anand Balki, and the music for this film is composed by Santhosh Narayanan. Though the title of the film is same as the hit 1964 film starring Nagesh, R. Muthuraman, K. R. Vijaya, debut director Anand confirms that this is not a remake. The film is bankrolled by Kenanya Films, and producer Selvakumar got the rights for the title from AVM production. After discussing with late comedian Nagesh’s family, the actor’s grandson Bijesh was also cast in the film.
The trailer leaves you in splits with Santhanam’s witty remarks about people’s behaviour today, and Bijesh compliments Santhanam perfectly through out the film. This doesn’t seem like a one-man show, and it surely doesn’t look like a medium budget film. It looks to be majorly shot abroad, but in fact the team had hired an island in Goa to shoot the film. The trailer reveals that the film is going to be a treat to your eyes, as the cinematography looks clean and refreshing. If the plot and screenplay are as strong as what is projected in the trailer, Santhanam might see the first big hit in his career as a hero.
Though the trailer has funny comebacks, it is clear that comedy is not the genre. Anand seems to be aiming at debuting as a director of a full-fledged entertainer. Santhanam plays the role of a catering student in this film, while Bisjesh assists him. It is about how the two of them seem to participate in a reality show/cooking competition. It is about how Santhanam is affected by ‘world out there’, and how he deals with it.
Saurabh Shukla will also be playing a pivotal role in the film.
Udhayanidhi Stalin has come a long way since his OKOK days, his maturity in choosing scripts and acting scaled up from Manithan; Pothuvaga Enmanasu Thangam is the actor experimenting himself in a village centric movie. Ponram’s assistant Thalapathy Prabhu makes his debut with the blessings of his guru and brings aboard the signature effect of Ponram’s touch all over PEMT. While Udhay’s boy next door image looks very natural, Parthipen and Soori take a meaty share of the film’s humor as they continue to tickle the funny bone with their one liners.
The story is simple and a few minutes into the movie is anybody’s guess on how it will pan out. Our Hero is someone who wants to do something good for his village desperately with the help of his sidekick and not far away is a Village Zamindar like character who keenly watches the hero’s moves and plans deviously to stop his growth; what happens when the two of them collide forms the story. With a wafer thin script, director Prabhu relies on template humor that tries to build up the respective characters of the hero and villain by suitable sidekicks. Udhayanidhi Stalin and Soori roam freely with cut loose humor by mocking the villagers, while it is indeed funny at the start, goes on to become repetitive. Its no different with Parthipen as he keeps resembling a village hot shot from the retro age who accompanies a sidekick (Mayilsamy) who keeps praising his Boss throughout the duration of the film.
Prabhu has kept the screenplay of the entire movie entertaining, you have to give him that. Right from the start the good knack of humor touch between Udhay and Soori is very light hearted and clean humor at its best. There is no twists or turns, its simply two guys scheming to do something good for their village and so decide the easiest way is to get one of them marry the daughter of the richest guy in the town. Now lets ignore these flimsy situations, for scenes like these pull the movie’s aroma down. Romance has been limited to songs and a few cute scenes, it is business as usual for Tamil Cinema heroines, they just seem to fall in love with the hero’s antics without a good reason. So after building up Udhaynidhi’s intention to save his village in the first half, the director shuttles to the second half where it becomes a cat and mouse game, who wins on what level forms the story.
Udhayanidhi Stalin surely has matured over time, his natural looks certainly is the key aspect of the film. For a film that demands a simpleton to raise his standards for his village, he appears tailor made for the role. There are instances where he keeps referring to his family background, that’s kept in the best possible humor without much heroism, kudos on that. Soori tags along with the hero throughout the film, his presence is a major plus as he continues to utter one liners at the right timing. With a powerhouse actor as Parthipen, you would have expected more scope for the actor. While he exceeds his expected role, the director could have actually used him even better knowing his knack for sarcasm and wit. Still Parthipen makes the best at his disposal with ease. Nivetha after winning hearts in Oru Naal Koothu has little to entertain as a simple heroine who is weak in academics, yet she utilizes it to her best potential.
Pothuvaga Enmanasu Thangam has Ponram’s signature all over, the film is heavily influenced by Varuthapadatha Valibar sangam as the screenplay enters the cat and mouse game between Udhay and Parthipen. While the film on the whole is a watchable commercial entertainer, the predictable screenplay and repetitive humor gives away the weak script.

Jyothika Naachiyaar is directed by filmmaker Bala, who was instrumental in establishing Jyothika's star husband Suriya as a bankable actor in Tamil cinema. In the film, she is said to be playing a dynamic police officer, while music composer-turned-actor GV Prakash will be playing a key role of a criminal.
The motion poster of Jyothika’s upcoming film Naachiyaar was unveiled by Suriya on Thursday. The promo video introduces all the key characters of the film. However, it is easily Jyothika who captures the attention of the viewers as an angry young lady.
While announcing the project earlier, the filmmakers had unveiled a couple of first look posters hinting that Jyothika will be seen doing a lot of action. And the latest motion poster video just confirms it.
Naachiyaar is directed by filmmaker Bala, who was instrumental in establishing Jyothika’s star husband Suriya as a bankable actor in Tamil cinema. “From Nandhaa to #Naachiyaar blessed to be a part of #Bala Anna’s journey!!,” posted Suriya on his Twitter page, while sharing the motion poster.
Bala’s 2001 film Nandha gave Suriya his first major solo hit at the box office and garnered critical acclaim for his performance too. And the director’s 2003 film Pithamagan is another landmark in the actor’s career. The two-time National Award-winning director is one of the finest storytellers in the Tamil film industry.
Naachiyaar marks Jyothika’s maiden collaboration with Bala. In the film, she is said to be playing a dynamic police officer, while music composer-turned-actor GV Prakash will be playing a key role of a criminal. But, going by the posters, Jyothika and Prakash seemed to be on the same team.
Action King’ Arjun to lock horns with Sasikumar in Kodi Veeran
Arjun will soon be seen as a villain in Sasikumar’s new film Kodi Veeran, said to be a relationship-based rural drama. It will also star Aishwarya Rajesh.
Action King’ Arjun is in talks to play the role of villain in actor-director Sasikumar’s forthcoming rural drama Kodi Veeran with director Muthaiah, who is known helming relationship-based village dramas such as Komban, Marudhu and Kutti Puli.
Sources say Arjun has already given his in-principle nod to the project, which revolves around brother-sister relationship. The team has approached Aishwarya Rajesh to play the role of Sasikumar’s sister and Hansika Motwani to essay his love interest. Arjun is also currently shooting for Vishal - Samantha’s Irumbu Thirai, where he plays the baddie.
“This was the story Muthiah earlier narrated to Suriya before he signed on Vignesh Shivan’s Thaanaa Serndha Koottam. Now, he’s doing the same film with Sasikumar, marking his second collaboration with the Subramaniyapuram actor after Kutti Puli,”
