Mersal Vijay First Look (2017)

The much-anticipated poster of actor Vijay’s next film was released on Wednesday. The film, titled Mersal , is directed by Atlee. Up until the release of the name of the film, Thalapathy61 was dubbed as the tentative title.
Atlee posted the name and poster of the film on Twitter ahead of Vijay's birthday. The poster shows Vijay in a typical traditional avatar.
Others in the cast are Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menon and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the female lead roles, while S.J. Surya, Sathyaraj and Vadivelu also play key roles. The film is written by K.V. Vijayendra Prasad and produced by Sri Thenandal Films.
The film will have AR Rahman’s music, which will be launched in August. Planned as a grand Deepavali spectacle, the film will see Vijay in three roles, one of which is that of a doctor.
“About 65% of the film has been completed, including two songs; one each with Nithya Menen and Kajal Aggarwal. Samantha has already joined the team in Chennai and the film will be completed before July-end, in three more schedules,” a source told IANS.
Popular comedian Yogi Babu has also joined the unit in Chennai, and two more songs are being planned to be shot.
This will be director Atlee's second outing with actor Vijay, the first one being blockbuster Theri.

Gautham Karthik is currently basking in the success of his latest release Rangoon, which has reportedly picked up at the box office in Tamil Nadu, following good reviews from the media and fans alike. The audio release function of his next film Ivan Thanthiran was held in Chennai on Monday at a star-studded event.
The filmmakers also showcased the trailer of the film to the media, while they released a comedy scene from the film on the internet. The scene featuring Gautham and RJ Balaji showcases the ordeals of the techies, including volatile job market, sorry state of engineering colleges in the country and societal pressure. In the film, Gautham and RJ Balaji seems to play engineering college dropouts, who are presently running a gadget shop. The comedy unfolds in a monologue by Balaji, who bumps into his classmate, who is a techie. The scene has been written and executed with the sole purpose of thwarting the perception that only engineers can make it big in the society.
Ivan Thanthiran is said to revolve around the relationship between a father and son, who is a college dropout. In the film, Gautham’s character does reverse engineering, making replicas of original products. Shraddha Srinath will be making her debut as a female lead in Tamil with this film. She had earlier appeared in a small role in director Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai. She shot to fame after her Kannada film, U Turn, became a big hit.

Nibunan (2017) Arjun 150 Filme

The teaser of action king Arjun Sarja’s upcoming film Nibunan was unveiled on Monday. The film is Arjun’s 150th film and to mark the milestone in the actor’s illustrious careers, the filmmakers undertook a first-of-its-kind social media campaign. The filmmakers had 150 celebrities share the teaser of Nibunan on their social media handles.
Arjun ruled the silver screen during the 1990s and early 2000s as a leading man. He predominantly worked in action films, which also earned him the title ‘action king’. He has also played negative roles of late in films like Mankatha in which he shared screen space with Thala Ajith.
Before Nibunan teaser was released on the internet, it was shown to superstar Rajinikanth recently at his residence. The Thalaivar was apparently very impressed with the promo video and wished the film’s team great success.
Nibunan, which will also release in Kannada as Vismaya, is an investigative thriller in which Arjun plays a supercop named Ranjith Kalidoss. The film follows a team of expert cops and their efforts to stop a psychotic serial killer who is on the prowl. The teaser showcases the film as a no-nonsense, edge-of-the-seat action thriller.

Virgin Mappillai (2017) G.V. Prakash Kumar

Director Adhik Ravichandran and composer-actor G.V. Prakash Kumar, who had previously worked together in last year’s Tamil blockbuster “Trisha Illana Nayanthara”, have reunited for another project called “Virgin Mappillai”.
“Both of them have joined hands again for a quick project. It’ll be another romantic comedy and it’s titled ‘Virgin Mappillai’. Adhik will start his project with Simbu (actor) only after he completes this film,” a source close to the director told IANS.
The plan was to immediately start working on this project after “Trisha Illana Nayanthara”. However, since Prakash had already signed another project, he had to complete that first.
The film will be produced by Stephen under the banner of Cheese Corner Pictures.

Kaan (2017) STR

The first look poster of STR's Kaan, directed by Selvaraghavan, has been released. Simbu will be seen as an ardent devotee of Lord Muruga in the film which has Taapsee Pannu and Catherine Tresa play the female lead in it. Produced by Selva's wife Gitanjali and Siddharth Rao under Glo Studios, Yuvan Shankar Raja is scoring the music, Arvind Krishna is handling the camera. Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu and Suresh are also playing important roles in the action adventure film.

It is being reported that Taapsee Pannu is all set to don khaki for the first time in her career. The title 'Kaan' means forest and its surrounding area. Important portions will be shot in a forest. The film also marks the reunion of cameraman Arvind Krishna who had worked with Selvaraghavan in Kaadhal Kondain, 7g Rainbow Colony and Pudhupettai.

Garuda is a Tamil movie direction by 'Naan Sigappu Manithan' fame Thiru. The movie has Chiyaan Vikram and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles.

When Garuda was signed, director Thiru announced the film on his Twitter page. The film is said to be an action thriller and will reportedly wrap up shoot in 60 days flat.

The film is being produced by Silverline Film Factory and music composer Girinandh is making his debut with this film.

Naachiyaar (2017) Jyothika and G. V. Prakash Kumar

Grapevine has been abuzz with reports that director Bala’s next film Naachiyaar, which has Jyothika playing the titular role, is based on the life of psycho killer Jayaprakash, the man who was found guilty for the cold-blooded murder of nine of his family members in Valasaravakkam, Chennai in the mid-1980s.
However, when HT got in touch with a close source from the team, the reports were trashed as baseless rumours. “The film is centred on the bold journey of the life of Jyothika. GV Prakash plays a criminal in the movie. It’s not based on any real-life story,” says our source.
Jyothika will reportedly essay the role of a cop in the film, which will have music composed by Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja. It must be noted that Ilaiyaraaja won the National Film Award for Best Background Score for his tremendous work in Bala’s last outing Thaarai Thappattai, which tanked at the box office. Since Naachiyaar marks the fifth collaboration between Raja and Bala, the expectation among music connoisseurs is palpable on social media platforms.
 Jointly produced by Bala’s B Studios and Eon Studios, the principal shooting of the film is likely to commence soon in Chennai. The muhurat of the project was conducted on March 1 in the city and was attended by Suriya and the cast and crew of the film.

Siddique says the remake titled Bhaskar Oru Rascal is high on freshness quotient and is not a carbon copy of its Malayalam original. “But the most important aspect will be high-voltage action. If Malayalam has a very soft and delightful tempo, here we have gone for a more action-oriented format. Though the core story remains the same, the screenplay of the second half will be different.” He adds that the element of humour is retained in Tamil as well, handled by Parotta Soori, Robo Shankar and Ramesh Khanna. “It will be an action-packed entertainer with generous dollops of drama and humour,” he says.    

Arvind Swamy, the ultimate romantic icon of the 90s, went for a drastic image makeover in his second innings. Siddique says the new, rough-and-rugged image of the actor is what made him rope in Swamy. “But, again, there is something different in store. He will be playing a loveable rascal, something totally different from his villains and characters with streaks of grey,” he says.  
The two child artists, played by Sanoop and Anikha, had key roles in the original and Siddique says he could come up with equally talented ones in Tamil as well.

“It’s Raghavan and Theri fame Nainika who will play Arvind’s son and Amala’s daughter in the film.” Apart from Chennai, Kolkata will be another main location of Bhaskar Oru Rascal. The film, produced by Murugan under the banner of Harshini movies, is expected to hit the screens in August.

Vivegam new still features Ajith and Vivek Oberoi together for the first time in an all new avatar. The two of them look all set to shoot their scene in their gear with their team of me. Are they against each other? Is Vivek Oberoi the antagonist? 

Vivegam is one of the much anticipated movies of the year, starring Thala Ajith, Vivek Oberoi, Kajal Aggarwal and Akshara Haasan. Directed by Siva and produced by Sathya Jyothi Films, the film’s music is being scored by Anirudh Ravichander. The movie’s teaser has so far reached 15 million views, and every still and poster that has surfaced online goes viral within minutes. One such picture features the Veeram actor and Vivek Oberoi in the same frame for the first time. Looks like they are all set for a scene in their gear.
After seeing this picture though, we wonder. What kind of an antagonist is Vivek Oberoi in the film? He is dressed in the same gear as that of Ajith. They are all in their uniform. So, if he betrays the leading man’s confidence; does that mean there is another villain in the movie?
The teaser only showed us a glimpse of the kind of action sequences that we will get to see in the film. The plot has so far been kept under the wraps. And, with the shooting taking place in Europe, there has been no leaks about the scenes and sequences so far.

Following the stupendous success of Theri, Ilayathalapathy Vijay and director Atlee are reuniting for an upcoming yet-untitled Tamil film.

According to recent developments, the principal shooting of the film will commence in February 2017, a source said. Interestingly, the project will be predominantly shot in the US.
"With most of the cast and crew already finalized, the makers plan to start shooting. A few locations have been locked in the US, and a few more will be finalized during the next visit," a source from the film unit told IANS.
Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha are slugging it out for the leading lady's part.
"Discussions have been initiated with both. In a week's time, an official announcement can be expected," the source clarified.
The film will also feature ace comedians Vadivelu and Rajendran.
Rumours has it that Academy Award-winning composer AR Rahman is most likely to compose the music.
It must be noted that veteran screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad has finished penning the script for Vijay's film. However, it isn't clear if Vijay 61 will be a sequel to Theri or a different subject.
Meanwhile, Vijay awaits the release of his upcoming actioner Bairavaa, which also stars Keerthy Suresh, Sathish and Jagapathi Babu in pivotal roles.

Ajith Kumar's Next Project

It is a known fact that director Shankar is eyeing on a sequel to his 2010 blockbuster movie Enthiran. While Superstar Rajinikanth remains to be his first choice to play the male lead, looks like the Lingaa star has not given his nod to be a part of the sequel.

While there were news doing rounds that Aamir Khan might replace Rajinikanth in Enthiran 2, Shankar might in fact postpone Enthiran 2 for a while to start a new project with Thala Ajith Kumar. According to the latest buzz Shankar has already prepared a script for Ajith and the project might go on floors pretty soon. Shankar had earlier said that he wanted to do a film for producer AM Rathnam as his last association with the ace producer did not work out the way he wanted it to. Shankar's collaboration with AM Rathnam on previous two occasions dished out Kamal Haasan's Indian and Siddharth's Boys. Since the Yennai Arindhaal producer incurred huge losses after Boys becoming a box office dud, Shankar wanted to make another film for AM Ratnam to compensate for the losses. Since Ajith's successful association with the producer is well known, Shankar had also mentioned he wanted to cast Ajith as his hero for the AM Ratnam movie. Looks like time has come for that particular project to take off as Enthiran 2 might not happen at the moment. Ajith, on the other hand will join hands with Siva of Veeram fame after Yennai Arindhaal. If everything works out well, Ajith's next after the untitled project with Siva might be a magnum opus with the I director.

Sattendru Maaruthu Vaanilai (2017) STR

Gautham Menon has been shooting for his film with Simbu in the city for the past few weeks. And now, the title of this project is out  it is Sattendru Maaruthu Vaanilai. Interestingly, this very phrase was part of the popular Nenjukulnumber in the filmmakerVaaranam Aayiram.

Oscar winner AR Rahman has been roped in as composer for this project, thus marking the return of the Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa combination. In fact, Simbu had tweeted that, Very first tune of Sattendru Maaruthu Vaanilai is rocking and just can't wait to shake legs, and that the title meant a lot to him.


Gautham has a penchant for coming up with pure Tamil titles for his projects. While his Vaaranam Aayiram was actually derived from Thirupaavai, his choice of other titles, like Kaakha Kaakha and Dhruva Natchathriam, came in for much praise from the classically-inclined.

Jiiva,, who is busy with Endrendrum Punnagai and Yaan, is set to start work on his next. Titled Nee Nalla Varuvada, this Tamil-Telugu bilingual has Nazriya playing the female lead.


Confirming the news, Jiiva says, We are starting work on this film from the first week of October, and Nazriya has been roped in to play the female lead. It will be a fun-filled ride, something on the lines of my Siva Manasula Sakthi , with Yuvan composing the music. Chandramohan, who has assisted Karunakaran (director of award-winning Telugu film Tholi Prema ), will be helming this project
