The sudden death of Former President of
India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on July 27, 2015, witnessed a massive out
pouring of grief in the entire nation. It is the second death
anniversary of Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam, a renowned
scientist, a beloved President and above all, a great teacher. It has
been two years since Abdul Kalam left the mortal world after suffering a
massive cardiac arrest but his immense volume of wise words and golden
thoughts still ring true. Born on October 15, 1931, at Rameswaram in
Tamil Nadu, the simple-natured Dr Kalam earned the tag of ‘Missile Man’
due to his extraordinary contribution in the field of aeronautics. When
he took over the Presidency reigns (2002 to 2007), Dr Kalam redefined
the position and went on to become People’s President, the one who
touched everyone’s lives. In his lifetime, Abdul Kalam has shared a vast
collection of inspirational thoughts, beautiful quotes and motivating
anecdotes which serve as a guiding light in the dark tunnel, even after
his saddening departure. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam continues to live on in our
memories with his words.
1. We are as young as our faith and as
old as our doubts. We are also as young as our self-confidence and as
old as our fears. We are as young as our hopes and as old as our
despairs.
2. I would like to ask you, what would
you like to be remembered for? You have to evolve yourself and shape
your life. Write your dreams down on a piece of paper. That page may be a
very important page in the book of human history.
3. Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.5. Do we not realize that self respect comes with self reliance?
6. Let me define a leader. He must have vision and passion and not be afraid of any problem. Instead, he should know how to defeat it. Most importantly, he must work with integrity.
7. Let us sacrifice our today so that our children can have a better tomorrow.
8. Real education enhances the dignity
of a human being and increases his or her self-respect. If only the real
sense of education could be realized by each individual and carried
forward in every field of human activity, the world will be so much a
better place to live in.
9. You see, God helps only people who work hard. That principle is very clear.11. I was willing to accept what I couldn’t change.
12. Those who cannot work with their hearts achieve but a hollow, half-hearted success that breeds bitterness all around.
13. No religion has mandated killing others as a requirement for its sustenance or promotion.
14. Man needs difficulties in life because they are necessary to enjoy the success.
15. Look at the sky. We are not alone.
The whole universe is friendly to us and conspires only to give the best
to those who dream and work.
16. Be more dedicated to making solid achievements than in running after swift but synthetic happiness.
17. If four things are followed – having
a great aim, acquiring knowledge, hard work, and perseverance – then
anything can be achieved.
18. Science has revealed that the human
body is made up of millions and millions of atoms… For example, I am
made up of 5.8×10 27 atoms.
19. The youth need to be enabled to become job generators from job seekers.
20. One of the very important characteristics of a student is to question. Let the students ask questions.
21. If you want to shine like a sun. First burn like a sun.
22. Great teachers emanate out of knowledge, passion and compassion.
23. Climbing to the top demands strength, whether it is to the top of Mount Everest or to the top of your career.
On the second death anniversary of Dr
Kalam, a majestic memorial will be inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister
Narendra Modi at Peykarambu, the place where the late president was
buried after he breathed last on July 27. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial is
designed and built by the Defence Research and Development Organisation
(DRDO) at the cost of about Rs 15 crore. A life-size seven-foot tall
bronze statue of ‘People’s President’ has been placed behind the
memorial building along with a model of a 45-foot tall four tonnes
weighing ‘Agni-II’ missile, a project with which Dr Kalam was intensely
involved when heading the DRDO, has been installed at the rear. It is
expected to be a massive tourist attraction but our hearts still ache
and eyes become misty thinking Dr Kalam is no more with us. We miss you
and will keep missing you forever, our beloved President Kalam.
